Best Places to Share Content Online

After failing to find a simple list of content sharing sites, we decided to compile one ourselves.  As an internet marketer, you are always trying to find the best places to share new content.  There are specific niches for each blog, and those niches should be researched in-depth.  Below we compiled a general list of places to post, no specific topic really needed.
Social Media Content Sharing Sites:
Facebook - The biggest social media and sharing site there is, Facebook is a must for all companies and blogs.  There are many techniques to growing your Facebook following, but it will often grow organically with all of your other efforts.  Be sure to engage your audience outside of just posting your own content, and share other’s as well.  You may not see much results in the beginning, but once you build a good base following, you will wonder how you ever lived without it.
Twitter - Very similar to Facebook but has it’s own benefits.  It is needed for the same reasons, but some perks include the ability to tweet at relevant companies and blogs as well as building your following much easier.  Whenever you blog about a specific topic, try to find authorities in the subject and include their twitter handle in the tweet with any relevant hashtags.  You can also use paid programs to help you follow relevant people, and then unfollow those who do not follow you back.  This is actually a very easy way to build your audience compared to other social media sites.
Google+ - Still fairly new but growing every day.  In terms of getting more hits to your blog, this may not be on your top 5 list.  Regardless, since it is owned by Google, it is remarkable how much weight the search engine puts on this social media site.  Each “+1″ is valued much more than each Facebook “like”.  Be sure to see this Google Spreadsheet of Google+ circles to help you build your following.
Reddit - Reddit is a beast I sincerely suggest you get used to using.  It takes a little while, but soon after registering and looking at some funny memes, you will be ready to post.   Be sure to become familiar with the specific subreddit that your topic pertains to, as well as the FAQ.  Nothing will get you downvoted faster than not abiding by the rules.  Plus, if it is your content, be honest.   There are FAR more subreddits than you think.  The pros to posting in a popular subreddit would be that if the content is really good, you can get shared and viewed far more.  The main con is a couple downvotes in the beginning can make your post disappear into Reddit nothingness within minutes.  Keep these in mind when posting.
Linked In - Personal and business oriented.  Only post blogs you wrote that you would want your employer to read.
Tumblr - Blogging platform but has a very social media aspect to it.  We do not personally use it but understand its importance.
Myspace – We don’t personally use it… yet.  It seems to want to make a comeback though.
Photo Sharing Sites
Pinterest - Cute dog lover’s everywhere rejoice.  Any images, or blogs with images, should be shared here.
Instagram - An image sharing site for your phone.  This is an annoyance for a business, but if you have a smart phone handy with an image you want to share, then you should be on this.
Photobucket - Not much sharing but great to host images
Imgur - Originally created for images meant for Reddit, this has kind of grown to be it’s own beast.  If you have a funny meme, definitely post it here.  You can include a description on images and albums, so you can always include links to your site with relevant information.
Flickr – Image hosting and sharing
Picasa - Photo sharing site we have not personally used
deviantART - Community of artists and photographers.
Places to Post Content with Minimal Social Media Aspects
StumbleUpon - We are not sure of the social media side of this site, but posting is very easy.  You need an account, but you can either post content through a plugin to your browser or blog, or by logging into your account.  This can yield nothing, or surprisingly a lot.  A good blog that gets upvotes can yield a couple thousand new visitors.
Digg - Used to do a lot, not so much anymore.  Worth submitting content, but I have yet to see much results since it has restarted a year or so ago.
Alltop - We haven’t used this yet, but found it when searching for this list.  We will be sure to use in the future.  Alltop is a congregate of top content from around the web in particular subjects.
BuzzFeed - This isn’t the best for just sharing a link of your blog, but it is good for creating content with links to thinks you care about.  Sign up, and share any fresh content you find.  If you made a good video, be sure to embed it and give a short description.  Browse around to see some other examples of it’s uses.
Video Hosting/Sharing Sites
YouTube – No description really needed.  Have a video you want to share? Upload it here.  If you need help, follow the steps on a YouTube video.
Vimeo - I seem to think this site is more art oriented, but any video can really do well here.  It isn’t always good to double upload content, but if your subject is best suited for Vimeo, check it out.
Vine - 6 second video clips.  We have never personally used, but to deny the impact it has currently would be at our own peril.
Daily Motion – A place to share and upload videos that we have not personally used.
LiveLeak – Another popular sharing and hosting video site we have not used.
I am sure there are more that we are missing.  Be sure to leave a comment or tweet @GreenfieldGrp if you have some suggestions.
